Addressing Overheating
As New Zealand homes become increasingly airtight, effective ventilation is critical to address overheating. Manrose has several solutions.
The Problem: Overheating
It’s no secret that many of NZ’s new homes are struggling with overheating during summer. Efficiency increases in insulation and double glazing have been great at keeping homes warm during Winter, but are now beginning to prevent overheated air from leaving in Summer.
Historically, homes used to be able to release overheated air via natural leakage, but that simply isn’t possible for most modern homes. On top of that, traditional solutions like windows often don’t open enough, and heat pumps cost a fortune to run all day.
The solution? Use mechanical ventilation to remove the overheated air, and replace it with cooler outdoor air.

The Solution: Ventilation
Unfortunately, addressing overheating isn’t as simple as just running a fan in a room. Modern homes suffering from overheating are often so airtight that they need make up air and an extraction fan to remove the overheated air.
Without make up air, the fan may struggle to function properly, a bit like how you might struggle to pull air out of an empty balloon.
Manrose has a range of passive air inlets for this exact purpose. When combined with powerful extraction fans, these passive air inlets allow your extraction fans to ventilate the overheated air out of your home, and replace it with cooler, outdoor air.
Passive Air Inlets
An essential element for combatting overheating in modern, airtight homes. Manrose passive air inlets allow cooler fresh air to be drawn inside.
Puro – Filtered passive ventilation
Puro is designed to provide an avenue for fresh, filtered air to enter the home. With an F7 filter, Puro filters out most viruses, bacteria, and pollens before they enter the home.

Aria – Settable passive ventilation
Aria is designed for applications with minimum airflow requirements. Ideal for ensuring that make-up air is always available in rental properties, irrespective of tenant actions.

Calma – Acoustic passive ventilation
Calma is designed to deliver make-up air quietly thanks to its proprietary Swedish acoustic damping system. Perfect for installation in locations where outdoor noise is an issue.

Whole Home Overheating Mitigation
The Manrose thermostat automated or continuous extraction systems are ideal for anyone wanting a hands off approach to mitigating overheating. Several options are available:
MultiVent – centralized continuous extraction
MultiVent is a centralised whole home continuous extraction system, with humidity automated boost, and switchable purge mode.

Genius – highly controllable extraction
Genius is a through-wall continuous extract fan with app controls, as well as humidity, light and temperature based automation.

Intellivent Celsius – automated extraction
Intellivent is a proven through-wall continuous extraction fan with inbuilt thermostat, designed for heat transfer and overheating mitigation.

Thermostats
Use thermostats to automatically control the running of any of our standard fans. Suitable for retrofit installation or new-builds with compatible fans.
Two options are available:
- Mechanical controls (FAN5856)
- Touch-screen controls (FAN7194)

Ceiling Sweep Fans
Used extensively throughout Australia, these ceiling-mounted sweep fans by Ventair offer proven relief from the heat. They are designed to circulate air around the room, making the occupants feel more comfortable.
These fans are ideal for quiet, cost-effective summer cooling in bedrooms and lounges. Ventair has a wide range of fan sizes, colours, and extra features, so there’s an option for every home.
