Continuous Extraction.
The best bathroom extraction fans.
As New Zealand homes become increasingly airtight, effective ventilation is now a ‘must have’. Manrose has numerous solutions.
Living In Goldfish Bowls.
New Zealand’s move towards more airtight homes has been fantastic for energy efficiency, but it also means we have to be more aware of how air moves through our home. Because of this, many houses now function like sealed goldfish bowls, trapping warm, moist air inside.
Our windows often can’t open enough to adequately ventilate a space, and intermittent fans rely on occupants remembering to use them and use them properly. Too often occupants forget to ventilate, allowing moisture from bathrooms, kitchens and laundries to accumulate and support mould on surfaces and inside walls.
In airtight homes, a more reliable approach is essential.

Why continuous extraction?
Continuous extraction delivers constant, effective ventilation. These quiet and energy efficient EC or DC fans are designed to operate all year round with a similar power consumption to an LED light.
Continuous extraction ensures:
- Moisture removal at the source, irrespective of occupant actions
- Negative pressure can draw fresh air inside through passive air inlets to create air exchange throughout the home in bedrooms and lounges.
- Constant extraction can help mitigate overheating during warmer months
For the best bathroom extraction fan, we recommend a continuous extraction fan with humidity automated boost. This ensures that you don’t have to lift a finger to remove moist air from your home.
Applications
Continuous extraction fans are easily retrofittable, and will benefit any home, but there are a few applications where they really shine:
Rental properties: Don’t rely on tenants. Rest easily knowing your investment is protected from harmful moisture and mould.
Airtight, Modern homes: continuous extraction ensures excess moisture does not migrate from the wet rooms to the entire home. These fans are best when paired with passive air inlets to create a whole home negative pressure ventilation system.

Meeting Ventilation Standards
It’s not just air extraction you are going to have to worry about. Make-up/ supply air is increasingly important as the most recent version of G4/AS1 notes that intermittent extract fans “will not necessarily provide adequate ventilation for the whole occupied space”.
Additionally, NZS4303:1990 ventilation for acceptable indoor air quality has a requirement for living area ventilation of 0.35 air changes per hour but not less than 15 cfm (7.5 L/s) per person. In simple terms; you may need to consider air supply, as well as air extraction.
For a cost effective solution for complying with ventilation standards, we recommend pairing a continuous extraction fan with several passive air inlets, or a balanced ventilation system. This approach introduces fresh air while still properly removing contaminated air.
Continuous Extraction Systems
Manrose has a wide range of continuous extraction systems for a variety of applications and room types. Here are some of our most popular systems:

MultiVent – Automated multi-room extraction
MultiVent is one of our most powerful fans, designed to extract from several wet rooms at once while needing only one external penetration. Includes NZ designed humidity automated boost for effortless operation.

dMEV C – through-wall continuous extraction fan
The dMEV C is a very quiet and energy-efficient wall/ceiling continuous extraction fan for bathrooms. Similarly to MultiVent, it features NZ designed humidity automated boost for effortless automation. IPX5 rating for flexible installation locations.

Contour – Powerful continuous extraction ceiling fan
The EC and DC Contour fans are continuously operating extraction fans with manually switchable boost. Compatible with a wide variety of fascias with optional integrated lights for an elegant finish. Ideal for larger bathrooms and kitchens.

Heatforce DC Boost – Continuous Heat-Fan-Light
With a modern low-profile design, recessed heat lamps, and switchable boost, there isn’t much that Heatforce can’t do. Continuous extraction combined with heating makes Heatforce highly effective at removing moisture from bathrooms.

Passive Air Inlets
A cost-effective solution to providing air supply to modern homes or airtight retrofits when used in combination with a continuous extraction ventilation system. Our range of Manrose passive air inlets allow fresh air to be drawn inside habitable rooms, before being removed by a continuous extraction system.

Puro – Filtered passive ventilation
Puro is designed to provide an avenue for fresh, filtered air to enter the home. With an F7 filter, Puro filters out most viruses, bacteria, and pollens before they enter the home.

Aria – Settable passive ventilation
Aria is designed for applications with minimum airflow requirements. Ideal for ensuring that make-up air is always available in rental properties, irrespective of tenant actions.

Calma – Acoustic passive ventilation
Calma is designed to deliver make-up air quietly thanks to its proprietary Swedish acoustic damping system. Perfect for installation in locations where outdoor noise is an issue.
